1408187 Web splicing apparatus RENGO CO Ltd 2 Nov 1972 [30 Dec 1971 (2) 15 Feb 1972 13 March 1972] 50627/72 Heading B8R A web splicing apparatus comprises a pair of web roll stands 14R, 14L, Fig. 2, associated with splicing rollers 4R, 4L, which are movable alternately to press the expiring web from one web roll into contact with the periphery of the fresh web roll. For one embodiment rollers 4R, 4L are mounted pivotally on shafts 511, 521 provided with electric switch rings 516, 517, 518, Fig. 1, to arrest the rollers in their upper, intermediate and lowermost positions. In the intermediate position a switch associated with the ring 517 actuates a fresh roll drive 2R, 2L for its belt 21R, 21L to accelerate the fresh roll to the speed of the expiring web. The roller 4R, 4L is then lowered into contact with the fresh roll periphery the expiring web is spliced and the end of expiring web cut off by a cutter 3 actuated by a controller provided with a counter. Counts are delivered by a proximity switch APS and co-operating vanes 421 on the roller 4R, 4L. In other embodiments, the rollers 4R, 4L are mounted for reciprocating motion or the common pairs of oscillatable arms. |
