1409345 Coated sheet material HODOGAYA CHEMICAL CO LTD 5 July 1973 [26 July 1972] 32153/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Coloured polyurethane leather is prepared by the addition reaction of polyisocyanate with an active hydrogen containing compound and coating the resulting polyurethane on a sheet of polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, nylon, cloth or non-woven fabric, there being incorporated before or during the addition reaction a copper phthalocyanine dye having the formula: wherein CuPc represents a chlorinated or non- chlorinated copper phthalocyanine moiety, R represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or a hydroxyalkyl group, R 1 represents wherein A represents an optionally substituted alkylene group, X 1 represents a hydroxyl amino or a substituted or unsubstituted alkylamino group, B represents an optionally substituted alkylene group, D represents -SO 2 or -COX 2 represents hydrogen, an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group and X 3 represents an amino, alkylamino or a hydroxy substituted alkyl amino group, R 2 represents hydrogen or an alkyl group, R 3 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, x represents 1, 2 or 3, y represents 1, 2 or 3 and x + y is 2, 3 or 4. Alternative methods of preparing the polyurethane leather comprise (a) reacting the phthalocyanine dye with the polyisocyanate before reaction with the active hydrogen compound (b) mixing the dye with the polyisocyanate, a polyol and a solvent and coating the resulting solution on a substrate, (c) mixing the dye with the polyisocyanate, a polyurethane and a solvent and coating the resulting solution on a substrate or (d) mixing the dye with a polyurethane and a solvent, coating the resulting solution on a substrate and then coating on this layer a solution of the polyisocyanate or the polyisocyanate and a polyurethane. Numerous phthalocyanine dyes are disclosed. The active hydrogen containing compound may be a polyol or a polyurethane, in the latter case the active hydrogen being present on the methane group. In a typical example a solution of a dye of the formula: was mixed with a polyisocyanate derived from trimethylolpropane and tolylene diisocyanate and a commercial polyol and the resulting solution was coated onto a polyvinylchloride sheet.
