Shock absorber for door actuating mechanism - has plate brake coupled to door by rack and pinion device

The shock absorber acts against the force of the door closing spring. The shock absorber has a linearly moving piston and the plate brake axis of rotation is arranged at right angles to the travelling axis of this piston. This brake ensures continuous braking of the closing door up to full closing. The shock absorber piston is coupled by its rack teeth to the rotating pinion teeth of the plate brake assembly which is held within the housing covered by plate. The plate brake has a number of internal and external plates which are sandwiched together. These plates are pressed together by a dished spring in the axial direction. The spring force is adjusted by an adjusting screw. The brake has a freewheeling clutch for ensuring that the brake does not interfere with the door opening movement. This brake force is uniformly distributed on the plates and the brake has a long life.
