A safety net system for a portable drilling rig. A flexible covering formed of a grid of cargo straps is positioned on an exterior face of a railing surrounding the drilling rig floor. The flexible covering spans several sections of the railing to strengthen the railing. The flexible covering has a top edge and a bottom edge. Hooks are positioned at spaced intervals along the top edge engaging the top rail of the railing. Cinch straps are positioned at spaced intervals along the bottom edge engaging the bottom kick plate and pulling the flexible covering taut. |
