The roller is made from heat treated steel or aluminium alloy and machined in one piece. The roller is hollow and has a central raised annular section (3). An extension at one end (5) is bored centrally (6) for the drive shaft which is locked in position by a screw in a tapped hole (7). The sprocket teeth (2) are formed around the raised section and are a standard type. The parts of the roller on the outside of the raised section are coved with sleeves of a synthetic siliconised rubber coating, concentric with the sprocket teeth and having a high friction coefficient.
