Cooling element with eutectic mixture - with heat pipes and an insulating jacket to reduce variation in heat transfer coefficient

A cooling element comprising a eutectic mixture and connections to cool it and store cold has the eutectic surrounded by an insulating jacket with one or more tubes of conducting material which have one end in the eutectic and the other outside the jacket, which are partly filled with a liquid refrigerant and which have an extended surface over most of their length. Esp. used for holding chilled vehicles at constant temp. The heat transfer coefficient from the surrounding gas to the eutectic is increased and is less dependant on the proportion of the eutectic which has melted than with conventional units which do not have the jacket and conducting tubes.
