1418788 Feeding rotary plate extruders USM CORP 9 April 1973 [10 April 1972] 16852/73 Heading B5A In a rotary plate extruder wherein material 132, Fig. 2, is introduced at an inlet 126 in a stationary casing 124 to a cylindrical surface 130 of a rotor 110 and is inwardly impelled to an outlet 136 through a shear zone 114 defined between the rotor and a stator 112, the material 132 is directed axially away from the inlet 132 towards the shear zone 114, by the axially directed surface 202, Fig. 3, of a stationary member 200, which spirals towards the shear zone 114 in the direction of rotation of the rotor 110. The surface 202 extends past the inlet 126 and downstream thereof, to prevent reverse flow of the material to the inlet 126. Electric heaters 140, 148 are provided. The rotor is axially displaceable to vary the width of the shear zone 114.
