<p>1420055 Bonding PTFE; seaming HOECHST AG 5 March 1974 [6 March 1973] 9741/74 Headings B5N and B5K Composite structures comprise a shaped body containing polytetrafluoroethyene bonded to a similar body or a body of another material stable at up to 400‹ C. by an interlayer of a copolymer of 90-99À5 wt. per cent tetrafluoroethylene and 0À5-10 wt. per cent CF 2 =CF.OR where R is a C 1 -C 10 , preferably C 1 -C 3 , perfluoroalkyl chain. Bonding is achieved at 320-400‹ C. under 0À1- 20 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> pressure by compression, by rolling, by welding between hinged plates, or in a screw clamp. The bodies may be plates, bars, blocks or sheets and may be overlapped. The PTFE body may be unfilled or filled, e.g. with glass fibres, coal or bronze, and may be sintered, rolled or compressed. A sintered body may be produced in situ in a closed mould. Other materials to which the PTFE is bonded are steel, Fe, Al, Cu, Zn, bronze, brass, glass and ceramics. The interlayer may be applied as a sheet, granules, powder or dispersion.</p> |
