Weighing machine (10) using strain gauge sensors. The machine contains a cylindrical rod (12) which is subjected to a tensile stress. The rod is supported at both ends (18, 20) and is free to move in perpendicular direction to produce linear deformation. The rod is prevented from bending and the strain gauges are fixed to the appropriate positions. Each of the bearings has a bush (22) with a locking pin (28, 29) which engages in a hole (26) at the end of the rod. The holes in the ends of the rod have larger diameters than those of the pins which will allow the rod to be displaced slightly with respect to the pins. The strain gauges are connected in a bridge circuit.
