1424621 Homogenizing welded alloys SOC DES ACIERIES DU MANOIR-POMPEY 5 Feb 1973 [15 Dec 1972] 5494/73 Heading C7A Welded heat resistant austenitic iron alloys which are to withstand operating temperatures of 900-1050‹C, the alloys containing Cr, Ni and/or Co, up to 0À5% C and optionally one or more of Mm, Si, Mo, W or Nb, with the balance being Fe and not exceeding 60%, are homogenized at 1100-1200‹C. The process is applied particularly to butt-welded tubes which are pre-heated to 500-600‹C before welding, the homogenization being carried out for 1 hour and possibly followed by cooling to 800‹C at 100‹ C/hr. followed by air cooling. The process is said to dissolve carbides and re-precipitate during cooling the carbides initially deposited during weld solidification. Suitable proprietary alloys are those containing, in % by wt; the balance being Fe and impurities. |
