<p>1436870 Binding sheets D GRONDA 16 Oct 1973 [16 Oct 1972] 48148/73 Heading B6A [Also in Division B4] A machine for punching holes in a pile of sheets 15 is provided with a helical cam operated device which spreads apart the opposing teeth of a resilient, e.g. plastics, binding member so that the punched sheets can be placed on the open binding member and the teeth then are allowed to close and engage in the punched holes. A pile of sheets is side registered against a vertical plate (52), Fig. 11 (not shown), on a laterally adjustable platform (51) and front registered against a bar 41 adjustable by cams 44. A lever 12 is then operated to depress, via a cam 11, a bar 4 having recesses 5 in which the tops of punches 6 are located. The punches are guided by apertured guide elements 7 and the recesses are of differing depths so that the punches do not act simultaneously. The punches are then raised via the cam 11 and lever 12 and the leaves 15 removed and placed on one set of teeth of the opened binding member. A plate 20 of the opening device has a plurality of slots in which the teeth of this one set can be accommodated, the teeth of the other set being held by the teeth 24 of a comblike member. A plate 27 has a plurality of hooks 28, one being housed in each slot. A pin 31 on the plate 27 engages in a helical groove 32 in the helical cam 33 and by operating a lever 34, the cam is rotated causing the hooks 28 firstly to move forwards to allow the binding engage the teeth of the one set. The levers may be operated by motors or manually.</p> |
