1323389 Thin layer chromatography J T BAKER CHEMICAL CO 4 Nov 1971 [27 Nov 1970] 51408/71 Heading B1X A method of conducting thin layer chromatographic analyses. in sequence comprises employing a sequence of chromatographically active adsorptive test areas along a base tape which is provided with solvent reservoir areas in contact with the test areas and indicia related to the test areas, sequentially and automatically in response to the indicia applying samples to be analysed to the test areas, applying solvent to the corresponding reservoir areas, subjecting the test areas to development and thereafter drying the developed chromatogram. As shown, the tape (which in examples is of monofilament nylon, moniofilament cloth or "Mylar") has on one face chromatographic adsorptive areas 318, 319 made for example from a slurry of silica gel in contact with reservoir pads 321 which may be of cloth, felt, cellulose or polyurethane foam; perforations 320 from indicia the detection of which as the tape passes through the apparatus initiate the application of samples and further perforations 315, 316, 317 are provided so that the tape can be advanced by sprockets (in fact, 35 mm "Mylar" film is a preferred base for the tape). |
