The swelling/reducing agent may be a polyphenol e.g. ortho diphenol (2, 2'-dihydroxydiphenyl), 1-4 diphenol (4, 4'dihydroxydiphenyl) or 1, 3, 5-trihydroxybenzene. The polyamide which may be in the form of fibres, filaments, yarns, flock films, woven fabrics, knitted fabrics or non-woven articles is immersed in a 1-30 wt. per cent aqueous solution of the polyphenol at up to 90‹C and after rinsing with distilled water it is treated with a 1-10 wt. per cent ammoniacal silver nitrate solution. The process is used to make textiles electrically conductive and to improve their antistatic properties.</p> |
