1445579 Textile dyeing and printing SANDOZ Ltd 9 Oct 1973 [13 Oct 1972] 47034/73 Heading D1B A method of dyeing or printing a fabric consisting of or containing polyester, cellulose 2¢ acetate, cellulose triacetate or polyvinyl chloride comprises treating said fabric before, during or after dyeing, with a compound of formula (I) wherein X is -O- or -NR-; R, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are as defined below; R 4 is H, -CO 2 M, -OR 6 or a group R 5 is H, -CO 2 M or a group where Y 1 is defined as below; M is a charge equivalent of a cation; m, and m 2 are integers 1 to 100, the sum of all integers m 1 and m 2 being 1 to 100; and R 6 is H or a group R. Examples describe the use of a printing paste containing the compound (I) with an azo dye on polyester fibre (Ex. 5) and on cellulose 2¢ acetate fibre (Ex. 6). A printing paste containing (I) and an anthraquinone dye was used with cellulose triacetate (Ex. 7). In formula (1) R is H, phenyl, phenalkyl (C 7 -C 22 ), phenyl or phenylalkyl (C 7 -C 22 ) substituted by -OH, alkyl, fluorine, chlorine or bromine and having up to 22 carbon atoms in the aggregates thereof, alkyl (C 1 -C 2@ ), cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 ), alkyl (C @ -C 15 ) cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 ), cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 ) alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ), alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ) cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 )- alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ) or a group -(Y 3 -O) m@ -R 2 ; Y @ and Y 2 are, independently, ethylene, 1, 2-propylene, 1, 3-propylene, 1, 2-butylene or phenyl-ethylene, with the proviso that (a) only the group Y 1 or Y 2 which are bound to -X- can be 1, 3-propylene and (b) each (Y 1 -O) or (Y 2 -O) chain contains no more than 2 phenylethylene groups; R 1 and R 2 are, independently, H, phenyl, phenylalkyl (C 7 -C 22 ), phenyl or phenylalkyl (C 7 -C 22 ) substituted on the phenyl nucleus by -OH, alkyl, fluorine, chlorine or bromine, and having up to 22 carbon atoms in the aggregate thereof, alkyl (C 1 -C 22 ) cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 ), alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ) cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 ), cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 ) alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ), alkyl (C 1 -C 15 )- cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 ) alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ) or a group R 3 is H, halogen, alkyl (C 1 -C 22 ), cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 ), cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 ) alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ), alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ) cycloalkyl, (C 5 -C 7 ) alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ) cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 7 alkyl (C 1 -C 15 ), -CN, -COOR 6 , -SO 3 R 6 , -OR 6 , -NHR 6 or -N(R 6 ) 2 , -CO 2 M -SO 3 M or a group -CO-X-(Y 1 O) m1 -R 1 Some of the compounds of Formula I form the subject of Specification 1445580.
