1437946 Curing rubber hose DUNLOP Ltd 18 July 1973 [27 July 1972] 35097/72 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions C3 and F2] Apparatus for the curing of a long length rubber hose having a wire reinforcement structure comprises means for applying a wire reinforcement structure to a length of rubber hose, means for subsequently causing an electrical current to flow in the wire reinforcement structure to heat the wire reinforcement structure and effect at least a partial cure of the rubber and means for applying a covering layer of polymeric material to the wire reinforcement structure while said structure is still hot from the curing operation. As shown in Fig. 1, cooled flexible mandrel 2 passes through extruder 5 which extrudes an unvulcanized rubber liner tube 5a over the mandrel. The covered mandrel passes through a steel wire braiding machine 6, individual wires 7 being passed through a common carrier ring 8 which leads the wires on to cover tube 5a. The braided and covered mandrel is passed through a drawing device 9 having opposing tracks 9a and 9b manufactured of a conductive metal. Electrical connections 10a, 10b from a transformer 11 are made between ring 8 and said tracks. A second extruder 12 is provided for extruding a nylon cover over the braid while hot. The wire braided on the lining is preheated by electrical energy of the current therethrough between ring 8 and tracks 9a and 9b. Alternatively, as illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown) a cylindrical induction coil is located coaxially around the hose so that an alternating current supplied to said coil induces electrical energy in the braiding.
|
