1,145,880. Coated plastics. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 17 May, 1966 [18 May, 1965], No. 21834/66. Heading B2K. A transparent or translucent fabricated part comprises: (1) a transparent or translucent substrate of polyacrylate resin coated with a transparent or translucent polyacrylate resin or cellulose acetate butyrate with the proviso that when the coating is cellulose acetate butyrate the substrate must be a polyacrylate having a recurring unit containing at least six carbon atoms or (2) a transparent or translucent substrate of polycarbonate resin coated with a transparent or translucent polycarbonate, polyacrylate, cellulose acetate butyrate or polystyrene, the cellulose acetate butyrate having a density of the order of 1.14 to 1.22, a softening temperature ranging from 140 to 250‹F. and an average molecular weight as determined from viscosity measurements of from about 12,000 to 150,000. Coating is effected by dipping, spraying, knife coating, roller coating, casting, the coating material being preferably dissolved in an inert solvent which is evaporated off e.g. in an oven. The substrates are preferably in the form of discs.
|
