1478420 Injection moulding INTERNATIONAL TOOLS (1973) Ltd 18 Feb 1975 [29 April 1974] 6775/75 Heading B5A Apparatus for moulding a one-piece plastics cap 4 comprises a mould portion 16 having a plurality of notches 22 in its outer surface for defining inwardly projecting locking lugs 23 on the peripheral flange 14 of the cap, the notches 22 each having an open upper end 25, and a plurality of lug-forming elements 26 projecting radially inwardly from the side surface of a cavity in another mould portion 6 and depending from the end surface thereof, the lug-forming elements each projecting into one of the notches and having a lower end 27 spaced from the lower end 24 of the respective notch to define the upper surface 23a of one of the lugs. The cap is provided with an annular flexible web 30 which is moulded in a slot 28 formed between two core members 44, 46. These members 44, 46 are relatively slidable axially to facilitate removal of the moulded cap by stripper means 51. Moulding is by injection of plastics material through passages (78), 80 and a port 82. The locking lugs 23 co-operate with surfaces 93 formed in a bayonet-type groove in a container C as shown in Fig. 5. |
