Treating malodorous, organosulphur-contg. effluents - with hydrogen peroxide prior to activated sludge treatment reduces odour build-up

Malodorous effluents contg. organosulphur cpds. (I) are treated with H2O2 so as to convert (I) to odourless cpds. and then passed to an aerobic activated sludge treatment zone. Build-up of odours, esp. in the second stage of the treatment, is avoided. The H2O2 is used pref. in amts. of 1-10 mols per mol.S in (I), oxidn. gen. taking 0.2-24 hrs. at 10-60 degrees C. The second stage is otherwise conventional.
