Automatic and continuous inspection of overhead electrified cables - using optoelectronic system comprising electronically scanned network of photodiodes

Automatic and continuous inspection device examines the wear of overhead contact wires (2) used by electric trains and determines the nature of this wear by detecting surface faults or defects, e.g. craters. It comprises an opto electronic sensor which avoids any contact between the measurement system and the wire to be inspected. The sensor comprises a network of integrated photo (5) diodes on which an image of the worn wire is formed using an optical system (4). The photodiode network is scanned electronically. The electronic detection circuit includes an auxiliary clock pulse circuit with a frequency divider.
