An independent suspension system for the two wheels of a caravan includes a longitudinal channel (7b, 7c) for each wheel, bolted to the under side of the chassis with an L-shaped pivot arm (12) suspended from its flanges by a pivot pin (9) through the junction of its two members. The longer member supports the wheel axle (6), and the shorter member supports a further pivot pin (13) for a bracket (14) carrying a rod (15) which can slide through a strap (18) at the far end, against the force of a spring (19). The other end of the spring rests and agaisnt a support block (20) suspended from the channel. The spring tension can be adjusted to the load by a nut and washer (17) at the top end of the spring carrying rod (15). Alternative designs include a cylinder and rubber buffers in place of the helical spring.
