<p>1429085 Comminuting ceramic particles INTERNATIONAL NICKEL LTD 4 June 1973 [12 June 1972] 26461/73 Heading B2A Ceramic particles are comminuted dry in a stirrer or vibratory-ball-mill in which the ratio of media:powder particles (by weight) > 1:1 beyond the threshold point X Fig. 1 (when the specific surface area begins to increase) the period of milling and the ball:powder ratio being above curve ABC Fig. 2 and preferably above curve ADC. The media:powder ratio may be as much as 20:1 (curve F, Fig. 1). Examples are given of the production of nickel ferrite and alumina tool tips, and ceramics including oxides, bromides, sulphides, nitrides and lanthamides and actimides are referred to, and particularly spinels, hexagonal ferrites and garnets e.g. yttrium-iron garnet.</p> |
