<p>A method and apparatus for use in explosive welding of two components. The apparatus comprises an anvil for supporting the components during the explosion which is free to be accelerated away from the components, after the explosion has terminated, by the stored strain energy in the anvil. The anvil is so shaped and dimensioned that the compressive shock waves may travel from the interface between the components and the anvil to a free surface, and the resulting rarefraction shock waves may travel back to the interface in a time not less than it takes for the explosion to take place.</p> |
