1418846 Bearings BORG-WARNER CORP 21 May 1973 [29 June 1972] 24130/73 Heading F2A A bearing assembly (Fig. 3) comprises an inner race 70 having a pair of roller raceways 78, 80 and a cylindrical opening 76 for receiving a shaft, and a spherical outer race 72 formed of a pair of substantially like members 96, 98 welded together, each said member having an interior roller raceway 100, 102 and an outer spherical surface 104, 106. The members 96, 98 may be provided with interfitting tongues 112 and slots 114 (Fig. 3B). Alternatively, they may be butt-jointed (Fig. 10, not shown). Bearings according to the invention are mounted in housings each having an internally spherical cavity. Such housings may be of the split-block type, or they may have a loading slot, or they may have a cylindrical bore at one axial end and a co-operating retainer ring. |
