A missile launched against an aircraft detects and modulates infra red or radar illumination signals from it, thus guiding itself. Determination of the modulater characteristics enables the aircraft to provide false position data. A doppler radar (1) carried by an aircraft (A) signals presence of an attacking missile (M). Angular information is used (11) to control the direction of a laser (2) beam (12) which is reflected (13) after modulation by the missile modulator. Synchronisation signals from a receiver (3) control a laser modulator (5) preventing the missile from using these detection signals. A high energy laser (4) is modulated (17) by signals from the receiver to send a false position signal to the missile.
|
