The latter compound may be a mono- or diamine, an hydroxyamine, an acyloxyamine, urea, a carboxylic or sulphonic acid amide or a heterocyclic nitrogen compound. Examples 1 to 4 describe the preparation of N- (beta - aminoethyl) - beta - aminoethyl - trimethoxysilane, N - phenyl - beta - aminoethyltrimethoxysilane, N - acetyl - beta - aminoethyl - trimethoxysilane and an N - (betaaminoethyl)-beta-aminoethyl siloxane. Uses.-As adhesion promotors between metals or inorganic oxides such as sand, quartz, glass, titanium dioxide, diatomaceous earth and iron oxide, and organic adhesives based on phenolic, urea, epoxy, urethane and polyolefin resins, or natural or synthetic rubber; or as protective coatings or corrosion inhibitors for inorganic oxidic or metallic surfaces. In Example 5 an aqueous methanolic solution of silane is applied to a bundle of glass fibres prior to impregnation with an epoxide resin; in Example 6 the silane is added to an acid-hardened mixture of phenolformaldehyde resin and sand; in Example 7 the silane is added to a urea/ammonium nitrate hardened mixture of sand and phenolic resin based on phenol, formaldehyde, urea and furfuryl alcohol; in Example 8 copper surfaces are treated with ethanolic solutions of silane; and in Example 9 methanolic solutions of siloxane are applied to steel strips prior to coating with vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer lacquer.</p> |
