<p>1467335 Control of printers CASIO COMPUTER CO Ltd 3 April 1974 [9 April 1973] 14845/74 Heading G4H A printer incorporates means for printing special marks adjacent characters (e.g. underlining) without backspacing. Data to be printed is fed from a device 12 (e.g. a keyboard or tape reader) to a decoder 15 which produces control signals L1 &c. for printer 16, which signals operate a print head shifting device 24 after a delay 18. Characters to be underlined are preceded and followed by an underline (start/stop) code generated by a key 13: this code operates a counter 21 (or a flip-flop) whose output changes to enable a gate 19 and block a gate 20. Since gate 20 is blocked, the printhead is not stepped after a character to be underlined; instead, gate 19 and gates 25, 26 effectively apply an "underline" code 01000001 to the decoder, which outputs an underline command L n to printer 16. Signal L n , however, operates device 24 after a delay 27 so that the next character can be printed. This procedure is repeated until the underline stop code from key 13 changes the output of counter 21 to block and unblock gates 19, 20.</p> |
