<p>1400772 Tunnelling machines GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA 19 July 1972 [20 July 1971] 33806/72 Heading E1F A tunnelling machine comprises outer and inner shields 10, 11, a cutting head 22 mounted on the inner shield, means for relatively displacing the shields to advance the cutting head, double acting piston and cylinder units 16 interconnecting the shields, and rods 23 which extend between the inner shield 11 and a support ring 21 for the cutting head. Further piston and cylinder units 28, 29 are provided to act on each rod 23 in directions up and down 28 and into and out of 29 the plane of the drawing to effect displacement of the cutting head with respect to the shield 11. The cutting head 22 carries a toothed ring 27 which is rotated by a plurality of pinions 24 each driven by a motor 25; the motors being either attached to the support ring 21, as shown, or attached to the inner shield and coupled to the pinions by articulated shafts (33, Fig 3 not shown). Both shields have means enabling them to be selectively clamped to the tunnel, and the inner shield has a recess 31 to allow a debris conveyor to be fitted. Relative rotation between the shields is prevented by guide means comprising interengaging projections and recesses 14, 15, which allow only axial movement.</p> |
