A process for recovering sulfur values from a molten salt containing alkali metal sulfides by treating the sulfide-containing molten salt with a gaseous mixture containing carbon dioxide and steam at a temperature below 600 DEG C to form alkali metal carbonates in the molten salt and hydrogen sulfide, the steam for the reaction being provided by injecting water directly into the reaction zone at a plurality of reaction sites, the conversion of water to steam also serving to maintain the desired reaction temperature within the reaction zone.
|
