<p>An appts. for holding and pressing a portion of a decorative strip or the like in a thermoforming (deep-drawing) mould for thermoplastics beakers or similar vessels comprises a vertically movable mould for the vessel, open at top and bottom, and a rolling chamber immediately below this mould and integral with it. This entire assembly can be raised and lowered around and relative to a fixed mould base and a transfer piston, both mounted upon a vertical rod projecting upwards from the base of the machine. When the mould and rolling chamber are in their raised position, a strip can be introduced laterally through a slit into the rolling chamber and thus forms a ring ready for transference into the mould and resting with its lower edge on the transfer piston. When the mould and rolling chamber assembly is lowered (position illustrated) this ring of decorative strip is transferred by the piston into the mould chamber. When the assembly is again raised, the decorative strip travels upward with the mould, until the mould walls arrive with their bottom end flush with the mould base ready for the deep-drawing operation. For deep-drawing thermoplastics beakers of the like in a mould in which a decorative strip is already in position, so that this strip becomes integrally bonded to the beaker. The arrangement enables beakers of relatively square or rectangular cross-section, i,e, with sharp radii at the corners, to be fitted with such a stirp. Previous arrangements did not enable this strip to be satisfactorily positioned and drawn into the corners of a generally rectangular mould in this way.</p> |
