<p>1437266 Fertilizer composition in gel form ICI AUSTRALIA Ltd 15 May 1973 [16 May 1972] 23043/73 Heading C1B [Also in Division A5] A composition of matter, suitable for use as a fertilizer, comprises a mixture of water, one or more compounds capable of acting as a fertilizer and a thickening agent in an amount sufficient to convert the mixture to a water resistant gel form comprising at least one organic watersoluble or water hydratable polymeric material capable of thickening said mixture either which is cross-linked already or the thickening agent comprises one or more additional substances capable of cross-linking it. Fertilizers specified are ammonium nitrate, urea, ammonium sulphate, ammonium chloride, monoammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, ammonium polyphosphates, superphosphate, concentrated superphosphate, potassium nitrate, potassium sulphate, potassium chloride, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, dipotassium phosphate, potassium polyphosphates, potassium metaphosphate, and compounds of Zn, Fe, Co, Mo, Cu, B or Mn. The thickening agent may be a galactomannan polysaccharide, a hydrophilic vinyl polymer or a biopolymeric material, e.g. guar gum, starch, a cellulose derivative, tamarind seed flour, a polymer of an acrylamide, an acrylic acid, an acrylic acid salt or a salt of vinyl pyridine, or a material prepared by reaction of a carbohydrate with a microorganism of the genus Xanthomonas. The cross-linking substance may be an alkali metal dichromate (optionally with a reducer) a boron compound or chromic chloride.</p> |
