1384654 Aerials LIBBEY-OWENS-FORD CO 1 Dec 1972 [15 Dec 1971] 55495/72 Heading H4A A glazing structure includes a sheet of glass having an aerial circuit fixed directly to and carried on a surface thereof which is made up of narrow lines of metal-frit, one of which terminates in an enlarged area. A connection facilitating element is secured to, and is in electrical contact with said enlarged area. As described, a windscreeen 12, Fig. 7, is made up of two glass sheets 14, 15 and an interposed plastics layer 16, all bonded together under heat and pressure to form a composite unit. A tee-shaped aerial 13 is provided on the outer face of the sheet 15, facing the car interior, and it comprises a single thin horizontal line 17 and a single centrally disposed thin vertical line 18, both made of conductive material. An enlarged portion 19 is provided at the bottom of the line 18, to which a terminal 20 is soldered. The aerial pattern may be formed upon the sheet 15 while it is in the flat, and be bonded therupon whilst said sheet is being heated preparatory to bonding. The lines may be printed or stencilled using a metal-frit suspension in paste form. The terminal 20, Fig. 5, may be aligned with the enlarged portion 19 with an interposed solder ring 27, when soldering may be effected using a pointed iron (Fig. 6, not shown). The terminal 20 has a transverse hole 23, into which the end 21 of a connection cable 22 may be introduced, and be held by a screw 24. Alternatively, the terminal 20 may be omitted, and the end 21 by soldered directly to the portion 19. In this case, connection of the aerial to the car radio is made by means of a coupling element 26 at the other end of the cable 22.
|
