1. A method of detecting and/or discriminating a yeast or fungal species, subspecies or strain in a test sample, the method comprising the steps of:
(i) mixing the test sample with at least one primer and at least one probe for in vitro nucleic acid amplification, wherein the primer has a sequence homologous to or complementary to a portion of the RPS7 gene or its corresponding mRNA, wherein the portion of the RPS7 gene is a portion of exon 3 of the Aspergillus RPS7 gene, or a portion of base pair position 508 to base pair position 711 of the C. albicans RPS7 gene, wherein the probe is labeled with a detectable moiety, and wherein the probe is selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1 through to SEQ ID NO: 49, SEQ ID NO: 176 through to SEQ ID NO: 189, and SEQ ID NO: 378 through to SEQ ID NO: 448; (ii) conducting the in vitro nucleic acid amplification; and (iii) analyzing the amplification product(s). |
