New benzofduran derivs. of formula (I) and their esters, amides, acids halides and salts: (where X is halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, NO2, Ph, CN or CF3; n = 0-2; R is 1-4C alkylene or 2-4C alkenylene; Y is Me, MeO, halogen or H). Cpds. (I) are antimicrobial agents, all with antibacterial activity and some also with antifungal and antiprotozoal (esp. trichomonacidal) activity. They can be used as medicaments, disinfectants and animal growth promoters. A typical cpds. is 2-nitro-3-phenyl-6-benzofuranacetic acid. In an example, this isd prepd. by nitrating 3-phenyl-6-benzofuranacetic acid. |
