Method of transporting waste heat comprises using the waste heat to generate a high-pressure gas, transporting the gas through a pipeline, and releasing the waste heat by condensing the gas. Suitable transport media include NH3. Process allows waste heat from power stations to be used for agricultural soil heating and/or for district heating (e.g. for blocks of flats). Compared with the use of hot water as transport medium, the use of high-pressure gas involves the transport of smaller masses, gives a more uniform temp. distribution in soil heating, allows easier control of the heat release rate (by varying the pressure), avoids problems of freezing, eliminates the need for pumps for transport over short distances (50 km.), and simplifies the pipeline system (pipes of the type used for natural gas can be used). |
