<p>The injector has a body (10) with a cylindrical bore (11). A plunger (12) reciprocates in the bore. the upper part (13) of the plunger is fitted accurately to the ground bore. The lower part (14) leaves an annular gap (15) between itself and the bore. The fuel inlet pipe (16) enters the body just below the shoulder (19) formed on the plunger between its two sections. The plunger carries a needle (18) at its lower end which closes the injection orifice (17) in the body. Fuel entering under pressure from a delivery pump presses on the plunger shoulder (19) and raises the plunger against a spring (22) to open the valve. Fuel which leaks into the spring chamber (21) is returned through a non-return valve (25) when the fuel pressure drops.</p> |
