The raw material for the workpiece is a straight piece of profiled material with shaped ends. The material is bent while cold into a semi-circular shape with two limbs forming U shape. The bending operation is carried out without work hardening the material, and the material maintains its original strength. After the fork section has been bent, a rod section (5) is welded to it, with its centre line symmetrical to the fork ends. The end of the rod section is shaped to match the shape of the fork piece.
