Process comprises a heating step to heat the metal to a selected temp. and a cooling step in which part of the cooling is achieved by injecting on the metal >=1 jet of liquid nitrogen. The process enables cooling to be achieved at high speeds and to provide cooling temperatures far below ambient temperature without having to manoeuvre the workpiece during treatment.
