The coupling jaw is bored out oversize and has a special insert (3c) of hardened metal to form the bearing for the towbar (2). The insert is secured by a pin (6) into the jaw and can be replaced when worn. The coupling jaw is bored out with a spherical mill and the insert pressed and pinned into place. The bearing surface of the insert is profiled to reduce the friction in the coupling.
