Two separate power units (1) for the motorised glider are attached swivelably to the fuselage so that during gliding flight, they are retracted into the body. The power units are swung out into position above or below the wings when powered flight is required. The engines are cooled by the back-wash of the propellers and are located so that there is only a small variation in the aeroplane's centre of gravity. Alternatively, jet engines can be employed. The engines retract fully into the fuselage leaving an efficient aerodynamic external surface.
|
