The optical detector (9, 10) is pref. a reflection-type photoelectric cell, or an infra-red light detector. The detector can be mounted at the top of the inner frame (4) of the lifting mechanism on a bracket (8), movable by the lifting fork bracket (5) where this is capable of moving above the frame. There can be two detectors aimed towards each other, so that their rays intersect at an obtuse angle, both parallel to the vertical central plane through the truck.
