<p>Emergency brake acts on an auxiliary suspension cable and is applied if the platform departs from the horizontal e.g. as in the event of a slipping winch. The main cable (5) has a spring coupling (9, 10, 11) with a vertical rod (8) which has a pivoted attachment to the platform (1). The auxiliary cable (7) passes through a braking unit (13) rigidly mounted on the rod (8). If the platform end falls relative to its suspension pivot (3) i.e. out of the horizontal, the brake actuating arm (15) pivots downwards, applying the brake. Failure of the main cable (5) causes elongation of the spring (10), resulting in the brake lever (15) being depressed by the rigid arm (19).</p> |
