A nanodevice includes a reservoir filled with conductive fluid and a membrane separating the reservoir. A nanopore is formed through the membrane having electrode layers separated by insulating layers. A certain electrode layer has a first type of organic coating and a pair of electrode layers has a second type. The first type of organic coating forms a motion control transient bond to a molecule in the nanopore for motion control, and the second type forms first and second transient bonds to different bonding sites of a base of the molecule. When a voltage is applied to the pair of electrode layers a tunneling current is generated by the base in the nanopore, and the tunneling current travels via the first and second transient bonds formed to be measured as a current signature for distinguishing the base. The motion control transient bond is stronger than first and second transient bonds. |

1. A nanodevice, comprising:
a substrate, a nanochannel formed in the substrate; a first pair of electrodes having a nanometer size gap there between; a second pair of electrodes having a nanometer size gap there between, the first and second pair of electrodes are positioned along the nanochannel and in the substrate; a first organic coating on an exposed surface of the first pair of electrodes at an inner surface of the nanochannel, the first organic coating forming a first transient bond between the first pair of electrodes and a base of a molecule in the nanochannel; and a second organic coating on an exposed surface of the second pair of electrodes at the inner surface of the nanochannel, the second organic coating forming a second transient bond between the second pair of electrodes and another base of the molecule in the nanochannel; wherein, when a first voltage is applied to the first pair of electrodes, a tunneling current is generated by the base in the nanochannel, the tunneling current traveling through the first transient bond formed to the base to be measured as a current signature for distinguishing the base; and wherein the first organic coating comprises a functionality of resorcinol and the second organic coating comprises a functionality selected from the group consisting of phosphonic acid and hydroxamic acid. |
