PURPOSE:To form the generated scale to the thin layer consisting of FeO as the temperature and main component and to enable the secondary working as it is, by regulating the atmosphere, when the low carbon steel wire rod of C<0.15% is wound up to a coil after the avove wire rod has been passed through the finishing rolling mill in the process of hot rolling. CONSTITUTION:The low carbon steel billet of C<0.15% is hot rolled to the wire rod 1, is cooled at the water-cooling zone 2, is wound up below 750 deg.C being passed through the guiding device 3 for wire rod, is sent into the cooling chamber 5, is quenched in the water tank 6 and, after that, is accumulated in the collector 9. At this time, an inert gas such as nitrogen is fed continuously into the guiding device 3 for wire rod and the cooling chamber 5. On the surface of the wire rod 1 accumulated in the collector 9, only the thin scale layer of thickness below 4mu, consisting of FeO as the main component and being accompanied with a very small amount of Fe3O4, is generated and the pickling and mechanical descaling treatment are not required, so that the secondary working such as cold wire drawing, etc. is made possible as it is. |
