The invention provides calcium sulphate fibres provided with inorganic coatings, the coatings consisting of sparingly soluble, firmly adhering inorganic compounds, the proportion by weight thereof on the coated fibres being from 0.5 to 10% by weight. The invention also provides processes for the production of these coated fibres, which are useful for strengthening cellulose products, synthetic resins and inorganic binding agents.
