The invention relates to a sandwich panel (1), in particular for a piece of furniture, having a wood-based panel (2) which extends in a longitudinal direction (L), is made up of wood particles, provided with a binder and pressed together, and has an upper side (2a), running in the longitudinal direction (L), and an underside (2b), parallel to the upper side, wherein the spacing between the upper side (2a) and underside (2b) defines a panel thickness, and having a first cover layer (3) which extends in the longitudinal direction (L), is adhesively bonded to the upper side of the wood-based panel (2) and the thickness of which is smaller than the thickness of the wood-based panel (2). In order to create a sandwich panel which is optimized for furniture construction, the invention proposes that the wood-based panel (2) has at least one first portion (2.1), in which the density of the wood-based panel (2) is higher than in at least one second portion (2.2) of the wood-based panel (2), the second portion being adjacent to the first as seen in the longitudinal direction (L).
