METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRANSMITTING PACKET IN A MULTIPLE INPUT MULTIPLE OUTPUT SYSTEM

Disclosed are a method and apparatus for transmitting packets in a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system. A method for transmitting packets in an MIMO system according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: determining optimum space-time block code methods for a plurality of respective packets in a virtual MIMO system having a number of antennas smaller than the number of transmission and reception antennas of an actual MIMO system; determining whether a Vertical-Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST) method is present among the determined optimum space-time block code methods, and determining the V-BLAST method to be an optimum space-time block code method for a packet of the actual MIMO system corresponding to at least one of the packets of the virtual MIMO system corresponding to the V-BLAST method; performing space-time block coding on individual packets in the actual MIMO system based on the determined optimum space-time block code methods; and transmitting the packets on which the space-time block coding has been performed.
