PURPOSE:To accomplish decreasing and increasing of the laser output instantaneously by dividing a unit oscillating tube into several sections in each of which opposing electrodes are provided whereby the discharge is made independently. CONSTITUTION:A laser oscillating tube 1 is divided into 4 sections from I to IV, and opposing electrodes 2 to 6 are provided in the respective sections. That is, electrodes 2 and 3 are opposed in the section I, electrodes 3 and 4 in the section II, electrodes 5 and 6 in the section III, and electrodes 6 and 2 in the section IV, respectively. Mirrors 7 to 10 are arranged at the both ends and the bending portion of the oscillating tube, with the mirrors 7 to 9 being used for reflecting laser beam and with the mirror 10 being used at the output side, whereby the beam is moved back and forth between the mirrors and amplified. In this constitution, one of these sections is opened to stop the discharge in the case of decreasing the output, and closed in the case of increasing the output. In this way, variation of the output is able to be made instantaneous without controlling the discharge current. |
