<p>A process for the preparation of a cyclopropanecarbonitrile of the general formula: (I) wherein R1 and R2 each individually represent an alkyl group of 1-6 carbon atoms and Hal represents a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom, which comprises heating a cyclopropanecarboxylate of the general formula: (II) in tile presence of a polar aprotic solvent, R1, R2 and Hal in general formula II having the same meanings as in general formula I and X represents a quaternary ammonium group. These compounds find use as intermediates in the preparation of insecticidally active compounds derived from the related carboxylic acids, such as esters of 2-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-3,3-dimethyl-cyclopropanecarboxylic acid.</p> |
