PURPOSE:To make uniform the quantity of binder applied to the inside and surface of sponge metal, by passing sponge metal, which has been filled with a pasty active material and dried, through an atmosphere containing mist or drops of the binder liquid. CONSTITUTION:The sponge metal 1, having a beltlike three-dimensional structure, is filled with a pasty active material and dried. Then, the sponge metal is impregnated with a binder liquid such as fluorocarbon resin dispersion in the impregnating apparatus 12' provided therein with two guides 17 and 17' of different height and reservoirs 18-20 before, after, and between the guides. The binder liquid 16 in the reservoir is sprayed from the nozzle 24 at the end of the pipe 23 through the pipes 22 and 23 by the pump 21. The sprayed binder liquid is impregnated into the sponge metal 1 which is moved along the guides 17 and 17'. Excess binder liquid is introduced to the supply pump from the reservoir through the return pipe 22. |
