A package 10 includes tablets 13, 14 or other substances, which when contacted with a liquid generate hydrogen and carbon dioxide. A catalyst 17 for the hydrogen-oxygen reaction, a carbon dioxide indicator 23 and anaerobic indicators 18, 19, 21 are applied to the exterior of the package. The CO2-generating tablet comprises a water-soluble solid acid and a water-soluble solid carbonate in proportions whereby an acidic pH is maintained upon dissolution in the liquid. <??>This gas generating apparatus constitutes a disposable unit which is intended to be employed only once for the production of an anaerobic atmosphere. |
